Courtyard and Skip Floors

By “filleting” the site depthwise into three layers—building, courtyard, and building—we created a composition that ensures ample daylight and ventilation for each unit despite the dense urban context. Spanning from the third floor down to the basement, the courtyard gently draws in natural light and air, infusing the entire residence with a sense of openness. In addition, the skip-floor design, where the front and rear floor levels are offset by half-steps, subtly controls sightlines between units while introducing a dynamic spatial sequence as one moves through the building. On the façade, openings are strategically positioned to capture abundant light while moderating external noise and views, and the interior combines concrete with wooden finishes to accentuate the shifting play of light throughout the day. Despite the constraints of a limited site, this housing project aspires to offer living spaces that embrace light, greenery, and a comfortable sense of distance for its residents.
