Nishio City Lifelong Learning Center (Competition Result)
西尾市生涯学習センター（仮称）設計者選定設計競技において、優秀賞を頂きました。
以下、千葉学審査委員長の講評です。
優秀案となった株式会社ihrmkの案は、帯状の空間が湾曲したり寄り添ったりしながらひとつながりの空間を作る平面計画に最大の特徴があります。一体の空間でありながら、大きな広場や隙間状の庭を介して付かず離れずの関係を築いている点は、生涯学習センター（仮称）の特質を的確に捉えていて実に秀逸です。また片流れの屋根が時に合体して切り妻屋根になり、敷地のそれぞれの方向に正面性を与えている造形も巧みです。しかし屋根を支える構造体は、流通材を使ってできるところは高く評価された一方、複雑な形状故に間仕切りや建具などを簡便な方法で設置することができず、独立した部屋を設けたり、将来にわたって間仕切りや用途を変更したりという柔軟性に欠ける点には懸念も示され、最後まで最優秀案を争いましたが惜しくも優秀案となりました。
We received the Excellence Award (Runner-up) in the Design competition for the Nishio City Lifelong Learning Center (tentative name).
Below is the critique by Manabu Chiba, chairman of the jury.
The most distinctive feature of ihrmk's proposal, which received the Excellence Award, is the floor plan in which a strip of space curves and nestles together to create a single connected space. The fact that the spaces are one continuous whole, yet maintain a connected but detached relationship through a large plaza and a garden with gaps between them, accurately captures the characteristics of the Lifelong Learning Center and is truly outstanding. Additionally, the design skillfully employs a single-sloping roof that sometimes merges to form a gable roof, giving frontality to each direction of the site. However, while the use of tradable materials for the structure supporting the roof was highly evaluated, the complex shape of the roof made it difficult to install partitions and fittings easily, raising concerns about the lack of flexibility in creating independent rooms and modifying partitions and their uses in the future. The proposal competed for the top award but was narrowly selected as the superior proposal.
